Testimonial for my Sister

Image
The power of sisterhood binds girls together with their immense amount of love for each other. As sisters grow they learn from each other, they guide one another through life, teaching each other morals and values. Where do I begin about my kid sister? My sister Farzeen will always hold a special place in my heart, and nothing that may come our way can change that. We grew up in a close knit family in those days where we didnt have video games and so much TV to view. We had each others company and were best of friends. My kid sister and me We shared many of our toys and stationary, though sometimes I was displeased at the way she treated my things. The best part of our childhood days were when we moved to Bandra in a sprawling 1000 sq feet apartment overlooking the sea. We would run over to the balcony everytime we heard an overhead plane fly by, and slide down the banisters of our staircase. Pranks we played were many too. Ring the doorbell of the neighbours and run

Never to late to start a new life!

Teaching is considered a noble profession and a teacher is a living example for the students to follow. Being a teacher was too ordinary a profession for a dreamy, introverted girl like me. Getting married at the age of 18 and being a mother at the age of 20, t eaching for me seemed to be the best profession at that time. I entered Kindergarten along with my daughter. It was going to be a two way street for us both. I was certainly happy to be amidst innocent  toddlers running, singing and playing around me. It  was my profession now. All set for my Kids The outlet for my creativity, reflected in my teaching aids, methods and constant desire to upgrade my skills. I never resisted change and happily accepted what came my way. I got the added benefit of free education for my daughter who studied in the same prestigious school. I would further like to add that my mom was a teacher in the same school and having passed my Std X there too, it was now my turn to give bac

JUST LIKE MOM – BECAUSE LEARNING STARTS YOUNG

Image
Being a young mom and juggling my career as a preschool teacher was a truly challenging one. I had the added responsibility of shaping young lives and more over creating the right impression in the mind of my growing daughter Zenia Irani. Back then my routine life involved going to school with my daughter – she as a young student and me as a teacher at the starting point of my career. A regular morning would comprise of packing tiffins, morning chores and getting ready to get the school bus on time and not be late. After getting ready little Zenia would hide behind the curtains and watch me get ready for school. I always wore dark lipstick, a round bindi and dupatta draped over my shoulders back then. She would sweetly smile and blush as she’d watch me get ready. As I continued teaching, I found myself receiving much more than I was giving. Pre-schoolers are innocent and accept what comes their way with very little resistance. Looking back on my daughter’s preschool days I still

Recycle to make Art

We all know recycling is the right thing to do. It helps to save energy, preserves natural resources and wildlife, and reduces our carbon footprint. How can we help to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle? These are some simple methods I follow in my day to day life and try to make a difference in my small way . I avoid disposable goods, such as paper plates, cups, napkins, razors, and lighters. Throwaways contribute to the problem, and cost more because they must be replaced again and again. I reuse grocery bags or bring my own cloth bags to the store. I do not  take a bag from the store unless I need one. I try to give away old clothes, appliances, toys, and furniture to the needy. I use the front and back of paper. In my school I try to make craft items with throwaway items like cups, cans, ice cream sticks gift wrapping paper etc. Some easy Crafts to do in Class       Schools are great places to educate about recycling, we need to catch them young and educate t

Developing Listening Skills in Pre School

Image
The person who coined the phrase ‘A teacher’s job is never done’ must have definitely been a teacher. Yes, teaching has been the right profession for me; I can simply say that it enhances the creativity and eagerness to keep learning. I can describe myself in two words – compassionate and effective. I reflect over my years of teaching, realizing that what was relevant teaching back then is not so effective in today’s classroom scenario. Children want more and have a thirst for knowledge. They want to reason, question and think rather than take instructions, listen and do. We have to be facilitators in the learning environment. Children learn more in their first five years of life and absorb like a sponge. Constantly developing teaching methods to make the teaching – learning process more enjoyable. Earlier I had researched a few fine motor activities which I successfully incorporated in the classroom. Today I wish to shed light on listening skills, the first and foremo
